Victims will now get justice soon, three fast-track courts to be set up in Uttarakhand

Former Union Minister of State and Member of Parliament from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency, Ajay Bhatt, received a response to his question in Parliament from the Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge), Arjun Ram Meghwal, who stated that three fast-track special courts will be established in Uttarakhand.
Ajay Bhatt had asked an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha regarding the central government’s plan to establish special courts in Uttarakhand for the speedy disposal of cases of crimes against children and women.
In response, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Law and Justice stated that a financial provision of Rs. 1952.3 crore has been made for the establishment of 790 courts across the country by March 31, 2026. Additionally, 773 fast-track special courts are currently operational across the country, including 400 dedicated POCSO courts.
Furthermore, at the request of the Uttarakhand government, three additional fast-track special courts have been allocated to Uttarakhand: one each in Vikasnagar (Dehradun), Kashipur (Udham Singh Nagar), and Nainital district headquarters. The recruitment of women judges/prosecutors and staff for these courts is the responsibility of the state governments and the respective High Courts.
He informed the House that a total of 248 cases related to rape and the POCSO Act were registered in the state between January and September 2025, of which 212 cases have been disposed of.
This clearly indicates an improvement in the speed of case disposal through fast-track special courts. The Union Minister also stated that as of December 2025, the total number of pending cases in the state is 1113, and the central and state governments are working together to ensure their speedy resolution.
