Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed displeasure over the delay in starting the collection of green cess from vehicles entering Uttarakhand from other states. He reprimanded the officials for the delay. Transport officials are now claiming that the collection of green cess through FASTag will begin from January 1st.

The government had decided to collect a green cess from vehicles entering Uttarakhand from other states. The rates have also been revised once. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been installed in all the border areas of Uttarakhand. As soon as a vehicle enters the Uttarakhand border, the camera will scan its number plate, and the green cess amount will be deducted from the FASTag account accordingly.

On Thursday, when Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami was holding a review meeting on revenue collection, he expressed strong displeasure over the delay in starting the green cess collection. Starting this collection will increase the state’s revenue. Transport department officials say that although the preparations are complete, they have not yet received the trial link from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
Deputy Transport Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Tiwari said that as soon as the link is received from NPCI, a trial will be conducted. Green cess collection will begin as soon as the trial is successful. Joint Transport Commissioner S.K. Singh told the media that it would be launched from January 1st.
