Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has made a major statement regarding the continuously increasing human-wildlife conflict in the state. CM Dhami acknowledged that the attacks by wild animals such as elephants, leopards, bears, nilgai, monkeys, and wild boars are affecting the lives of the common people. Therefore, the government has prepared a comprehensive and phased action plan to deal with this challenge.

Sterilization centers to be established in every district
The Chief Minister stated that solar fencing will be installed for security in areas where incidents of human-wildlife conflict are occurring. Along with this, a robust security system will be developed by installing sensor-based alert systems. To control the increasing population of wild animals, modern sterilization and neutering centers will be established in every district. The Forest Department will ensure all necessary arrangements for this.

Rehabilitation centers to be opened in sensitive areas
CM Dhami said that wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centers will also be opened in sensitive areas prone to human-wildlife conflict. More than 25 wild animals have been safely kept at the rescue center for tigers and leopards in Ramnagar, and new centers will be built for bears and other wild animals on the same lines. For this, a minimum of 10 nali (a local unit of land measurement) in hilly areas and one acre of land in plain areas will be reserved.

An additional Rs 5 crore to be given to the Forest Department
The Dhami government has given top priority to this problem and has instructed that the entire strategy be implemented within two weeks. The Forest Department will also be given an additional amount of Rs 5 crore for the availability of cages, tranquilizer guns, and other resources, and the rules under the Wildlife Act will be made more effective.

The CM informed the Union Minister that effective steps are being taken by the Forest Department and the administration to mitigate this problem. Instructions have also been issued to control aggressive wild animals.

Government working with a balanced approach: CM
Chief Minister Dhami had also requested additional resources and support to tackle this serious challenge. In response, the Union Minister assured all possible assistance from the central government and emphasized scientific management, modern technology, and a swift relief system. The Chief Minister also assured that the state government is working to maintain a balance between human safety and wildlife conservation.
