Posters put up by the Ganga Sabha at the Ganga ghats in Haridwar, prohibiting the entry of non-Hindus, have heated up the political atmosphere. These posters clearly convey a “no entry” message for non-Hindus, following which the opposition has strongly objected.

India is a country of all religions and communities, not just one: Congress
The opposition party, Congress, says that India is a country of all religions and communities, not just one. The opposition alleges that such posters are detrimental to social harmony and go against the spirit of the Constitution.

Mahendra Bhatt cites the sanctity of the Ganga ghats
Meanwhile, BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt has issued a statement citing the sanctity of the Ganga ghats. He said that there are some places that have a special significance due to their religious and spiritual sanctity. Bhatt said that he doesn’t think that a person of any other religion comes to bathe in the Ganga.

People of other religions do not bathe in the Ganga: Bhatt
The state president gave an example, saying that just as Hindus do not go to Mecca-Medina, similarly, people of other religions do not bathe in the Ganga. However, he added an important point to his statement, saying that if a Muslim wants to bathe in the Ganga, become purified, and embrace Sanatan Dharma, then there should be no objection to it.
