Uttarakhand / Haridwar: Body recovered from a septic tank in an illegal colony; police baffled by the investigation

a
Panic gripped the Sidcul police station area of Haridwar when a body was recovered from a septic tank in the Gayatri Vihar colony. The initial investigation revealed the case to be far more complex than initially perceived, presenting significant challenges for the police. The biggest reason for this was that the colony where the incident occurred is an illegal settlement developed without the approval of the development authority.
The deceased had been missing for 20 days
The deceased was identified as Phool Singh, a resident of Rawali Mahdood, who had been missing for about 20 days. The biggest challenge for the police now is to determine how Phool Singh ended up in the septic tank and the circumstances surrounding his death. The investigation revealed that the Gayatri Vihar colony does not have any approved layout plan. If the colony had been authorized, it would have been mandatory to have CCTV cameras, an entry register at the gate, and security guards. In such a situation, the police could have easily obtained information about those entering and leaving, suspicious activities, and crucial clues related to the incident. However, due to the colony being illegal, there are neither cameras nor security guards.
Police investigating the case
The role of the colonizer has also come under scrutiny in this entire matter. The negligence in developing this colony by disregarding the rules is now proving to be the biggest obstacle in the police investigation. The question arises whether the colonizer will be held accountable or if this case will also gradually fade away. The silence of the development authority is also raising many questions. Why has no strict action been taken so far despite the colony being developed without permission? Was this negligence of turning a blind eye to illegal construction waiting for a major tragedy to occur? Currently, the police are investigating the case from all angles.
