Uttarakhand: 16th National Voters’ Day program; Governor honored District Magistrates and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs)

Today, Sunday, January 25, 2026, a state-level National Voters’ Day program was organized at Lok Bhawan in Dehradun on the occasion of the 16th National Voters’ Day. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh attended the event as the chief guest. During the program, he honored the District Magistrates and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) for their commendable work.

Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh inaugurated the 16th National Voters’ Day program by lighting the lamp. During the event, he also administered the voters’ pledge to the citizens present. He honored the District Magistrates of Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Champawat, and Bageshwar for their outstanding work in electoral activities.
District Magistrates and EROs honored
Along with this, the EROs of Roorkee, Khatima, and Chakrata were honored for their excellent work during the pre-SIR (Special Summary Revision) process. During the program, the Governor honored State Icon Padma Shri Basanti Bisht, Olympian Manish Rawat, and Nungshi Malik with mementos. On this occasion, the Governor also honored new voters from Dehradun who had completed 18 years of age by presenting them with voter ID cards.
“Voting is not just a right, but a moral duty of every citizen” – Governor
Addressing the citizens present at the program, the Governor extended his best wishes to all the people of the state on National Voters’ Day. In his address, the Governor said that the greatest strength of democracy lies in vigilant, aware, and active citizens. The Indian Constitution has entrusted every citizen with the responsibility of strengthening democracy by giving them the right to vote. Voting is not just a right, but a moral and constitutional duty of every citizen.
Strengthen democracy by exercising your vote
The Governor appealed to everyone to compulsorily exercise their right to vote in every election and play their role in strengthening democracy. He said that when every citizen votes, India’s democracy becomes even stronger.
This year’s theme – “My India – My Vote”
The Governor said that this year’s theme, “My India – My Vote,” conveys the message that every vote plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the country. When a citizen casts a vote, they are not only making a decision for themselves but also for future generations. He also said that the strength of democracy is ensured not by policies or institutions, but by the conscious participation of its citizens.
Appreciation for the Election Commission of India
The Governor praised the Election Commission of India, stating that the Commission has been successfully conducting fair, independent, and transparent elections for the past seven decades. He congratulated the election officials, staff, and security forces for smoothly conducting the democratic process.
Youth and New Voters: The Country’s Greatest Asset
Addressing the youth and new voters, the Governor said that youth power is the country’s greatest asset. He urged the youth to consider voting not merely a formality but a means of shaping the future of the country.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of the state’s election machinery, Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and polling parties for successfully conducting the voting process despite the challenging geographical conditions of Uttarakhand.
