Changes to LPG Cylinder Rules from May 1st! Revised Regulations Covering Everything from Booking to Delivery

With the arrival of May today, several changes have come into effect. While the prices of LPG cylinders have increased starting today, significant changes have also been made to various regulations governing LPG gas cylinders—changes that are crucial for everyone to be aware of.

Gas Cylinder Rules Changed from May 1st! (LPG Cylinder New Rules)
Oil companies such as Indane, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas have revised their regulations covering everything from booking to delivery. The primary objective of these changes is to curb the black marketing of gas and to make the delivery process even more secure.

Dual Connections No Longer Permitted
The government is now identifying households that possess both an LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) and a PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connection. According to the new rules, households that already have a PNG connection are required to surrender their LPG connection. This means that households with a PNG connection will no longer be able to obtain a new LPG connection, nor will they be eligible for gas refills.

The aim of this regulation is to ensure that gas cylinders reach those households that do not have access to a PNG connection. It is worth noting that, to date, approximately 43,000 families have already surrendered their LPG connections.

Extended Waiting Period for Booking (LPG Cylinder Booking Rules)
The impact of these new regulations will also be felt in the gas cylinder booking process. The mandatory waiting period between bookings has now been extended. Previously, a second cylinder could be booked after a gap of 21 days; however, you must now wait for 25 days before booking a subsequent cylinder.

Furthermore, in rural areas, this waiting period has been extended to 45 days. If an attempt is made to book a cylinder before the stipulated waiting period has elapsed, the system will automatically reject the booking.

No Delivery Without an OTP
Additionally, starting May 1st, you will no longer be able to receive your gas cylinder simply by presenting your gas booklet or an old receipt. A new system has been implemented for this purpose: an OTP (One-Time Password) is now mandatory for every gas delivery.

Simply put, whenever you book a cylinder, you will receive an OTP (referred to as DAC) on your registered mobile number. You will receive the gas cylinder only after providing this OTP to the delivery personnel. The objective behind this measure is to prevent fraudulent or erroneous deliveries.

Keep Your Mobile Number Updated
Since gas deliveries will now be authenticated via an OTP… Therefore, it is essential that your mobile number is linked to your gas connection. Consequently, if your number is not updated, you may face difficulties in obtaining your gas cylinder.

eKYC Mandatory for Gas Subsidy Beneficiaries
Furthermore, if you are a beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Aadhaar eKYC has now become mandatory for you. If you have not completed your eKYC yet, you may encounter issues in receiving your gas subsidy.

Cylinders Become More Expensive Starting May 1st
Additionally, effective today—May 1st—the prices of gas cylinders have been hiked. The price of a 19-kilogram commercial LPG cylinder has increased by ₹993. As a result, the 19-kilogram commercial cylinder now costs ₹3,071.50.
