Uttarakhand: A new centre of learning and values in Haridwar; CM Dhami inaugurates Patanjali Ayurved Gurukulam

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the first Patanjali Ayurved Gurukulam at Patanjali Wellness Yoggram in Aurangabad, Haridwar, on Wednesday. He congratulated Yog-Guru Swami Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna, and the Patanjali family on the launch of the Gurukulam.
The Chief Minister stated that Haridwar is a major center of faith, culture, and Sanatan tradition. In this context, the launch of the Patanjali Ayurved Gurukulam is a significant initiative towards integrating India’s ancient knowledge tradition with modern education. He noted that the Gurukul tradition is not limited to bookish knowledge; rather, it fosters values (sanskar), discipline, character building, and a sense of social responsibility among students.
Integration of Indian Values with Modern Science is Essential
The Chief Minister remarked that in today’s rapidly changing world, education in values, discipline, and a balanced lifestyle is just as important as modern knowledge. At the Gurukulam, the integration of modern science and technology with Yoga, Ayurveda, Indian culture, and life values will not only connect the new generation to their roots but also prepare them for future challenges.
He stated that modernity and tradition are not adversaries but are complementary to each other. A Centre for Hindu Studies has been established at Doon University to promote the study of and research into Indian knowledge traditions, philosophy, and culture.
Emphasis on Science, Research, and Innovation
The Chief Minister mentioned that efforts are also underway to promote science, research, and innovation in Uttarakhand. The country’s fifth ‘Science City’ is being developed in Dehradun. An environment conducive to startups and innovation is being created, alongside equipping the youth with skills aligned with future needs.
He added that a stringent anti-cheating law has been implemented in the state to ensure transparency in government recruitment. Over the past five years, approximately 35,000 youths have secured employment opportunities in government services. Emphasis on establishing a global hub for knowledge, yoga, and Ayurveda
The Chief Minister stated that efforts are underway to develop Uttarakhand into a major global hub for knowledge, yoga, Ayurveda, and spirituality, alongside tourism. Patanjali Ayurved Gurukulam can play a significant role in this endeavor. He expressed confidence that, in the future, this institution would emerge as a premier center for the study of knowledge, science, yoga, and Ayurveda for students from across the country and the world.
Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik, MLAs Adesh Chauhan and Ravi Bahadur, former Cabinet Minister Swami Yatishwaranand, District Magistrate Mayur Dixit, Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar, along with various public representatives, officials, and students from the Patanjali institution, were present at the event.
