Today, Yaas can turn into a cyclonic storm, High alert in Navy- Navy and Coast Guard ready

After the havoc of Tauktae, now the threat of cyclonic storm Yaas uthi has started looming. States have started taking precautions on this. Tauktae caused havoc in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Now the Odisha government has issued a high alert in the coastal districts in view of ‘cyclonic storm’ Yash in the Bay of Bengal. Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra informed on Friday that all the coastal and adjoining districts of Odisha have been kept on high alert. On the other hand, the state government on Friday requested the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard to be prepared to deal with the situation.

Chief Secretary Mahapatra said, ‘A meeting was held with all the line departments, NDRF, Coast Guard, INS Chilka, DG Police and DG Fire Service. Mahapatra said, Keeping in mind the forecasts of the Meteorological Department, all the concerned departments like power companies, rural and urban water supply departments, health departments, Odisha Disaster Response Force and NDRF are on alert to be ready with manpower and essentials is placed.
Mahapatra said, ‘The process of identification of large scale cyclone shelters and safe buildings has been started. Whatever is necessary for relief and rescue has been arranged. He also said that the entire administration is fully prepared to deal with the cyclone. The top official of the state said that all the routes of the cyclone will be known clearly in the next two-three days. Then the state will decide where to focus more.
The fisheries department, through its warning, has called back those fishermen who were at sea. He said two Indian Air Force airplanes and the ship Paradip are patrolling the sea to guide the ships, fishing boats to come to shore before the cyclone.
The Meteorological Department has said that there is a possibility of a low pressure area over the Bay of East Central Bengal and adjoining North Andaman Sea on 22 May. It is expected to move north-west and turn into a cyclonic storm by 24 May. After this, the storm will continue to move north-west and will intensify. According to the information, the storm will reach the northern Bay of Bengal near the Odisha-West Bengal coasts on the morning of 26 May.
