North India will get relief from heat, Punjab-Haryana will receive rain in next 24 hours
The Indian Meteorological Department has said that severe heat scorched North India, but easterly winds accompanied by rain will cover the region by July 10. It rained in some parts of Delhi last night, bringing relief to the people from the heat. According to the Meteorological Department, the national capital is experiencing severe heat. The mercury in Delhi was recorded at 43.1 degree Celsius on July 1, 41.3 degree Celsius on July 2 and 42.6 degree Celsius on July 7. In the plains, severe heat is declared when the maximum temperature is more than 40 °C and at least 4.5 °C above normal. The temperature in Gurugram was recorded at 43.7 degrees Celsius, six notches above normal. At the same time, IMD said that moist easterly winds from Bay of Bengal have formed over East India and it is likely to move further into Northwest India covering Punjab and North Haryana by July 10. Around July 10, the Southwest Monsoon is also likely to spread over remaining parts of West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and some more parts of Delhi. There is a possibility of heavy rain in the next five days in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. A low pressure area is very likely to form in the Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts around July 11, bringing heavy rains over Northwest India including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and East Rajasthan. Other cities of Haryana, Narnaul, Hisar, Rohtak and Ambala recorded maximum temperatures up to 43.3 °C, 42.8 °C, 41.8 °C and 40.8 °C, respectively. Amritsar and Patiala in Punjab recorded maximum temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius and 41.4 degrees Celsius, six notches above normal. Bathinda recorded a maximum temperature of 40.4 degree Celsius. Rajasthan witnessed severe heatwave conditions in some parts of the state due to deficient rainfall in various districts. Sriganganagar was the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 44.3 degree Celsius. This was followed by Pilani at 43.2 °C, Churu 43 °C, Alwar 42.8 °C, Dholpur 42.5 °C and Pali at 42 °C.
