Women’s Cricket: England beat India by 18 runs under Duckworth-Lewis rule

Northampton, 10 July. England women’s team took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after thrashing India by 18 runs in the rain-interrupted first T20I at the County Ground here. India won the toss and elected to bowl and England, batting first, scored 177 for seven in 20 overs, thanks to Natalie Sciver’s 55 off 27 balls with eight fours and a six. Chasing the target, the Indian women’s team scored 54 runs for three wickets in 8.4 overs when the rain came and the match could not start again.
The result of the match was according to the Duckworth-Lewis rule, in which the Indian team lost the match after being trailed by 18 runs.
In India’s innings, Smriti Mandhana scored 29 runs in 17 balls with the help of six fours. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur got out without opening another Shefali Verma account while Harleen Deol 17 and Deepti Sharma remained unbeaten on four. For England, Katherine Brunt, Sciver and Sarah Glenn got one wicket each.
Earlier, in England’s innings, apart from Sciver, Amy Allen Jones scored 43, Daniel Watt 31, Tammy Beaumont 18 and captain Heather Knight scored six while Sophie Ecclestone remained unbeaten on nine.
Shikha Pandey took three wickets for India and Radha Yadav and Poonam Yadav took one wicket each.
