The ‘Mukhyamantri Ek Bigha Yojna’ of Himachal Government is proving to be very helpful in strengthening the rural economy. Thousands of eligible beneficiaries have been benefited from this scheme in the state. In Mandi district also, the number of people taking benefit of ‘Mukhyamantri ek bigha scheme’ is increasing day by day. Under the scheme, more than Rs 3.59 crore is being spent on 800 works in the district.
Let us inform, Chief Minister Shri Jai Ram Thakur had launched this ambitious scheme on May 21, 2020. This scheme has been linked to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA) so that rural economy can be strengthened. Under the scheme, women in rural areas can take help for various personal development works related to self-employment.
Naveen Sharma, project officer of the District Rural Development Authority of Mandi, says that under the scheme, a woman or her family who owns up to one bigha (or 0.4 hectare) of land can take help for personal development works. In this, backyard kitchen garden can be prepared to grow vegetables and fruits. Apart from this, women can get various works up to one lakh rupees done under the scheme like land development work, water conservation structure construction, making vermi compost. Help is also being given for other personal development works related to self-employment.

Approval of 1,847 works
The project officer said that under the scheme 3,034 applications have been received in Mandi district till the end of June, out of which 1,847 works have been approved. In which 56 in Seraj development block, 102 in Balichowki, 536 in Chauntara, 133 in Balh, 142 in Dharampur, 65 in Gohar, 332 in Sundernagar development block, 141 in Gopalpur, 46 in Drang, 238 in Sadar and 56 in Karsog development block. tasks are included.
He informed that out of 1,847 works, 800 works have been started, out of which 243 works have also been completed. Under the scheme, an amount of Rs. 1 crore 47 lakh 36 thousand has been spent so far and Rs. 2 crore 11 lakh 85 thousand is being spent on the ongoing works.
Take advantage of this scheme
Naveen Sharma says that under this scheme, the beneficiaries can get their work included in the MNREGA shelf, if someone’s name is not in the MNREGA shelf, then they can also take advantage of the scheme by taking approval from the panchayat.
He informed that more than 5000 self-help groups are registered in Mandi district, to which about 35 thousand women are connected. They can take advantage of this scheme. For this information can also be obtained from the concerned BDO office.

Like hundreds of beneficiaries of the scheme, Reena Devi of Tikkari village of Gram Panchayat Kothi of Mandi district and Manju Devi of Rathoh village of Gram Panchayat Balt express their gratitude to the Chief Minister, Shri Jai Ram Thakur, saying that they have made their kitchen garden with the help of the scheme. Prepared, in which seasonal vegetables have just been planted. This is not only meeting the needs of the household, but it has also made way for additional income.
On the other hand, Nirmala Devi of Gram Panchayat Diyagi tells that she is building a cowshed for her animals with the help of the scheme. For this, he has got the help of 35 thousand rupees from the government, for which he is deeply grateful to the Chief Minister Shri Jai Ram Thakur.
