Federer pulls out of Tokyo Olympics due to knee injury

Switzerland’s Roger Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam winner, has pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics starting July 23 due to a knee injury.

Federer gave this information on social media. The 40-year-old said, “Unfortunately I developed a knee problem during the grass court session and have been forced to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics. I am very disappointed because it would have been a matter of great honor and pride for me to represent Switzerland but I wish all the best to the entire Swiss team and I will support them from afar.

Federer has played at the Olympics four times and had to settle for silver at the 2012 London Olympics after losing to Britain’s Andy Murray. Apart from this, he won a gold medal in doubles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He has not won a gold medal in the singles category. This is a big title that Federer has not been able to win in his illustrious career.
