The Hundred: Harmanpreet shines but the team loses

Indian batsman Harmanpreet Kaur hit 29 off 16 balls but could not save her team Manchester Originals (Women) from a five-wicket defeat at the hands of The Oval Invincibles (Women) in the opening match of The Hundred.

South Africa’s Dane van Niekerk played an unbeaten 42-ball 56 and shared a 73-run stand with Proteas teammate and partner Marijane Kaap (38) for the fifth wicket to help the Oval franchise win with two balls to spare.

Harmanpreet hit six fours in his innings. She was dismissed by left-arm seamer Natasha Farant. Natasha took three wickets for 25 runs in 20 balls. Marijne took two wickets for 20 runs in 20 balls as the Oval restricted Manchester to 135/6 in 100 balls.

In response, England pacer Kate Cross (three for 28 off 18 balls) shook the Oval’s top-order with her four wickets down to 36 runs but Dane and Marijne brought the home team back on track. Gave.
