Big relief from Supreme Court to Para shooter Naresh Sharma

In a major relief to para-shooter Naresh Sharma, the Supreme Court has ordered the Paralympic Committee of India to recommend his name.

Arjuna awardee and five-time Paralympic shooter Naresh Kumar Sharma had challenged the Paralympic Committee of India’s decision not to include him in the Tokyo Paralympics and requested a hearing today.

Advocate Vikas Singh, appearing for Naresh Sharma, said before a division bench headed by Chief Justice NV Raman that the last date for selection is August 2, so what will be the use of hearing the matter on August 6 by the High Court. The division bench will hear the matter today itself.

Justice Raman said he would look into the papers and decide if it was really necessary.
Mr Singh argued that in order to participate in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, a para shooter must have participated in at least two international events approved by World Shooting Para Sports, but Deepak, who was selected in place of Naresh Have participated in only one approved competition. The selection committee also added the point of participation in the Serbia Grand Prix which is not approved by World Shooting Para Sports, to do so is biased. The last date for sending applications is August 2, while the Paralympics are to begin on August 25.
