Noise pollution at number two among environmental crimes : NCRB

Data from the latest report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) showed that out of 61,767 environmental crimes recorded in 2020, noise pollution-related crimes (7,318) ranked second at the all-India level. Cigarettes and tobacco related cases top the category.

However, Delhi is among 15 states and eight union territories that have reported zero offenses under the Noise Pollution Act (Centre/State), according to NCRB data.

Rajasthan recorded the highest number of crimes at 7,186, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 44 cases.

Remaining offenses from Tamil Nadu (19), Haryana (15), Punjab (15), Kerala (11), Himachal Pradesh (7), Karnataka (6), Uttar Pradesh (6), Chhattisgarh (2), Gujarat (2), Maharashtra (2), West Bengal (2) and Bihar (1) were recorded.
The 14 states where no crime was committed are Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Goa, Delhi, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand, while the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands The clusters are Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
A 2020 report by the Central Pollution Control Board showed that Chennai was the noisiest city among the six metro cities, while other metros also had very high noise levels.

However, the NCRB data shows that in the states that have these metros, not much is being done in comparison to noise pollution.
