CSA-BCCI’s decision – Due to Omicron, spectators will not come for the entire test series

The 3-match Test series starting between India and South Africa will now be played without spectators. In South Africa, the situation is uncontrollable due to the new variant Omicron of Kovid-19. With this, keeping in mind the safety of players and supporting staff, Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have taken this decision. This series will start in Centurion from December 26, the Boxing Day Test between the two countries.

South Africa is one of the countries most affected by the corona virus. The fourth wave of this deadly virus is going on here and daily record cases are being reported here. The reason for the fourth wave is believed to be the Omicron variant.

CSA said in a statement, ‘CSA regrets to inform cricket’s most ardent spectators and sports lovers that due to the increasing cases of COVID across the world and the fourth wave in the country, both the cricket bodies have taken the necessary measures for the safety of the players and the tour. It has been jointly decided that sports tickets will not be available for India vs South Africa match.

“The decision has been taken to avoid any harm to the tour from the perspective of risk of COVID and to maintain a risk-free biologically safe environment,” the statement said.

CSA is looking at various options for viewing against the audience. The series is being organized amid the threat of increasing cases of COVID-19 after the spread of the Omicron format last month. COVID cases have increased in the country in the last few weeks.

The Indian team has been staying at the resort since its arrival here on December 16, which is fully booked for it, so that a strict biologically safe environment can be maintained throughout the series. This series is part of the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.
