Corona Kumbh should not become Ganga Sagar Mela!
Ganga Sagar Mela, which is held every year on Makar Sankranti in Ganga Sagar Island of West Bengal, is starting from today. This fair will be held till January 16. Amidst the increasing cases of corona across the country, it seemed that this fair would be canceled, but the Calcutta High Court on Friday gave permission to organize this fair. However, the court has put conditions that the corona rules should be strictly followed during the fair.
The dangers of organizing a fair in Bengal are high. The third wave of corona continues in the country. Every day lakhs of cases are coming. 1.41 lakh cases were registered in the country on Friday. On Thursday, 15,421 cases were reported. On Friday, 2,444 people were admitted to the hospital due to Corona. On Thursday, 2,228 people were admitted.
On Friday, 18,213 new cases were found in Bengal, which is the second highest in the country after Maharashtra. Bengal leads in terms of test positivity rate with 26.34% rate. Test positivity rate means how many positives have come out of 100 tests.
On Makar Sankranti, thousands of devotees, sages and tourists take a dip in the confluence of river Ganges and Sagar and offer prayers at Kapil Muni Temple. The court had expressed concern that due to so many people taking a dip, the corona virus would spread through the mouth and nose in the river water and there is a possibility of infecting other people.
In the Maha Kumbh Mela that lasted from January 14 to April 27 last year, about 90 lakh devotees took a dip in the Ganges in Haridwar. Then the second wave was starting in the country. At the time of the royal bath in the fair, between April 10 and 15, the corona report of 1200 people came positive. In such a situation, there is a danger of corona blast in Ganga Sagar too.
