ED raids on the premises of CM Channi’s nephew in illegal sand mining case ahead of Punjab elections

Ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, the Enforcement Directorate has taken a major action against the nephew of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday raided the premises of CM Channi’s nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey and others in connection with illegal sand mining.

Along with the house of Bhupinder Singh Honey, raids are being conducted from this morning at about 10 to 12 different places in Punjab. ED officials are taking action under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). A case of money laundering has been registered in this case with the Enforcement Directorate.

According to the news agency PTI, it is being said that raids are also being conducted on the places of some people having political connections.

This raiding action is taking place at a time when the election campaign is in full swing in Punjab. Polling in Punjab is to be held on February 20 and the counting of votes will take place on March 10.

The issue of illegal sand mining is one of the most talked about points in Punjab’s election campaign. Captain Amarinder Singh, the former Chief Minister of the state, has accused his old party Congress of being involved in the business of illegal sand mining.

Amarinder Singh had alleged that Congress MLAs are involved in illegal sand mining. Last month, he said, “If I start naming names, I have to start from above.”
Singh had also told reporters that he had informed Congress President Sonia Gandhi about the MLAs involved in illegal sand mining.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has emerged as a tough challenger to the Congress in Punjab, has also been targeting Chief Minister Channi over allegations of illegal sand mining in him.
