Maharashtra : Former sarpanch dragged 3-month pregnant forest ranger by his hair, kicked him, jumped on the stomach

In Maharashtra’s Satara district, a former sarpanch thrashed a woman forest ranger with sticks and kicks. The woman officer was three months pregnant and the accused also knew this. After the video of this incident surfaced, now Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray has assured strict action.

The incident took place on Wednesday in Palaswade village, where former sarpanch Ramchandra Jankar, along with his wife, beat up female forest ranger Sindhu Sanap and her husband Suryaji Thombre with sticks. The attack took place on Sindhu and Suryaji Thombre while they were on duty and were out on patrol.

In the video that has surfaced, the accused are seen beating Sindhu Sanap in an inhuman manner. The sarpanch pressed the woman’s neck with her feet and jumped on her stomach. The accused had fled after the incident. Two police teams were formed to nab them. The sarpanch and his wife have been arrested by the Satara police.

According to Suryaji Thombre, “During the patrol, the sarpanch’s wife started slapping him. When Sindhu Sanap intervened, she started beating her with sticks. I have shot a video of the whole incident.”

The victim woman officer said, “I had joined 3 months ago, from the very beginning the former sarpanch used to threaten me, ask me for money. While returning from work, they beat me up, beat my husband with slippers. He was getting angry because of this.

Satara SP Ajay Kumar Bansal said, “Medical examination of the pregnant forest ranger is being done. In case there is any harm to the fetus, it will also be included in the further action.” Satara ASP Archana Dalal said that both the accused have been booked under sections 352, 353 and 354 of IPC.

After the matter caught fire, State Commission for Women Chairperson Rupali Chakankar said that the commission has taken the matter seriously and sought a report from the Satara police in a week. The commission has also directed for strict action against the accused.

State Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray has taken cognizance of the incident. “The accused have been arrested this morning and strict action will be taken. Such acts will not be tolerated,” Thackeray tweeted.
