Manifesto promises to provide employment, parties do it every time, yet every 10th voter is unemployed
Unemployment and low employment opportunities are the biggest election issues in Uttarakhand. But political parties and leaders seem to be trying to get away from this big problem by talking only about government jobs. Creating good income jobs while increasing new employment opportunities is nowhere in the political agenda. This is the reason that every tenth voter in the state is unemployed. 8 lakh 42 thousand unemployed are registered in the state. While there are a total of 82 lakh voters in the entire state. About 25 percent of these voters are elderly. If these voters are removed, then the figure of unemployed voters in the state goes even higher. The report of the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) is also confirming the unemployment and low employment opportunities in the state. Nine percent employable graduate youth are roaming unemployed in the state.
The unemployment rate is 4.3% in urban areas while 4.0% in rural areas. Lowest employment and labor participation rate in the country: Uttarakhand has the lowest employment and labor participation rate in the country. According to CMIE, the employment rate in Uttarakhand was 30.43 per cent till December. This is much lower than the national average of 37.42 per cent and the lowest in the country.
It is followed by Goa 31.99, Uttar Pradesh 32.79 and Punjab 36.86. But the government and ministers have been citing only the reason of corona for unemployment. However, even before Corona, the migration continued in search of employment. Due to this, hundreds of villages of Uttarakhand have become deserted.
Promises are made every time: In every election of the center and state, promises are made to the voters to increase employment. But after the elections are over, these promises turn out to be mere announcements. This time also big political parties and candidates are promising to bring new schemes to woo the youth. Some are talking about bringing new jobs and some are promising to provide employment through self-employment. It remains to be seen how much work is done on the promises being made to the youth after the elections are over.
Largest voter most unemployed
The unemployment rate is highest among people in the age group of 25 to 45 years in the state. This includes both young men and women. While this section is also the largest voter of the state. It is clear that the focus of the government and political parties is not on the main problem. The unemployment rate of women in the state is 7.6%. Head of the Department of Sociology at Kumaon University, Prof. According to DS Bisht, if the youth do not get work according to their qualifications, then it directly affects the society. The government will have to take more concrete steps to find new employment opportunities.
