China warns US against $100 million arms deal with Taiwan

The tension between the US and China over Taiwan is only increasing. China on Tuesday warned the US against a $100 million deal on arms supplies to Taiwan. China said Beijing would take necessary steps to protect its sovereignty.

The United States has approved a potential USD 100 million sale of equipment and services to Taiwan to ‘continue’ and ‘improve’ the Patriot missile defense system used by the self-governing island.

On this, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in a briefing that China strongly opposes and condemns this action. He said that America should immediately withdraw this proposal. Zhao said that China will take necessary and effective measures to protect its sovereignty and ensure its security.

Let us tell you that the tension between China and Taiwan has increased significantly. Relations between China and the US have also deteriorated in recent issues related to human rights, the corona epidemic and trade.

At the same time, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency said on Monday that it has given the necessary certification to notify Congress after State Department approval for the sale requested by Taiwan’s TECRO.

There will be rapid progress in military balance and economic field

This proposed sale serves US national, economic and security interests by supporting the recipient’s continued efforts to modernize its armed forces and maintain a credible defensive capability, the statement said. The proposed sale would help improve the security of the recipient and maintain political stability, balance the military and accelerate progress in the economic sphere. The statement also said that the proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

Taiwan welcomes US move to approve weapons

Meanwhile, Taiwan has welcomed the US move to approve arms sales worth $100 million. The Foreign Ministry said that we welcome the State Department’s approval for the sale of weapons worth USD 100 million to Taiwan. The decision demonstrates the commitment of the US government to the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances. It supports the maintenance of our defensive capabilities as well as regional peace and stability.

Significantly, China has repeatedly threatened Taiwan with aggression and has adopted an aggressive policy to intimidate the self-governing island.
