Indian Embassy in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv closed

The Indian Embassy in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv has been closed. It is believed that it can be shifted to the nearby city of Leave. Sources gave this information on Tuesday. Russia has surrounded the capital Kyiv and is continuously shelling. Apart from Kyiv, there are constant attacks by Russia in Kharkiv city as well. Sources say that the Indian embassy in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv has been closed after making sure that there are no Indians left there. Kyiv is the victim of Russia’s biggest attack. The Russian army is also targeting residential buildings and administrative buildings there. Sources say that the ambassador and other staff of the Indian Embassy in Ukraine have moved towards the western part of the war-torn country.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla has also said that all Indians have gone from Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. Shringla has demanded immediate safe passage from Russia and Ukraine for the evacuation of all Indians stranded in Kharkiv and other war-torn areas. He told that Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the death of the Indian student in the high-level meeting. India is deeply concerned about the situation in Kharkiv, Sumi and other war-torn areas.

Russia has attacked the eastern part of Ukraine from many sides. The Indian government has been advising Indians trapped in Ukraine to move to the western side for several days. An Indian student was also killed in Kharkiv city on Tuesday in Russia’s attack. Naveen Shekharappa, a resident of Karnataka, was standing in the ration shop to get food items, when an administrative building was targeted by the Russian army, in which Naveen was also hit by the blast and he died.

According to sources, the Indian embassy is being shifted to the city of Liv in the western part of Ukraine. The place for the embassy has also been marked there. According to sources, the embassy staff has moved towards its new destination. This exercise has come at a time when the Government of India is trying to bring back the Indian students trapped in Ukraine under Operation Ganga by taking them out along the borders of Poland, Hungary and Romania. In the last few days, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has held several high-level meetings on the issue of evacuation of Indians trapped in Ukraine. PM Modi has also asked the Air Force to join this work. In the next three days, 26 flights will run to bring Indians from neighboring countries of Ukraine.

India started the Ganga mission on 26 February to evacuate its citizens through Ukraine’s western neighbors like Romania and Hungary. So far, 2,012 Indians have been brought back to India through nine special flights. The government said on February 27 that around 13,000 Indians are stranded in Ukraine, most of them college students.

Ukraine’s airspace was closed on 24 February after the Russian government launched military action against the country.
