Farmers should get benefit of increased international wheat prices: Bhupendra Hooda

Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said here on Sunday that the farmers of Haryana should get the benefit of the increased wheat prices in the international market. Hooda said, “Haryana farmers should get the benefit of increase in wheat prices in the international market. Prices have reached Rs 3,000 to Rs 3,500 per quintal. In fact, many countries are importing wheat from India and other countries after Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Ukraine produces a lot of wheat.

The former Haryana Chief Minister also said that wheat production has come down by five to ten quintals per acre due to early heat wave in the state and the government has to pay Rs 500 per quintal on the minimum support price to the farmers. Bonus should be given. Hooda, the leader of the opposition in Haryana, said that the cost of crops for the farmers has increased significantly. “In the last few years, the cost of farming has increased significantly due to weather and inflation. No tax was imposed on fertilizers, seeds, medicines or farming equipment during Congress government but BJP government has imposed heavy tax on all these things.

“During the tenure of Congress, Haryana used to get cheaper petrol and diesel than neighboring countries. Therefore, every petrol pump on the state border used to have boards advertising ‘Economical Fuel’. But now diesel is cheaper in many neighboring states including Delhi. This has increased the cost to the farmers.” Hooda accused the BJP-led state government of slowing down the pace of development in Jhajjar and failing to bring big projects to the district.

He said, “But the state government is not generating electricity according to the capacity and this has created a serious power crisis in the state.” Asked about the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, Hooda said that he Will continue to fight for the interest of the state. “The water of SYL is the right of Haryana and we should get it,” he said.
