India has created a new record in gross GST collection. Gross GST revenue stood at Rs 1,67,540 crore in April 2022. Of this, CGST is Rs 33,159 crore, SGST is Rs 41,793 crore, IGST is Rs 81,939 crore and cess is Rs 10,649 crore. Earlier in March, the GST collection was Rs 1,42,095 crore.
Talking about April 2021, then there was a GST collection of 1,39,708 crores. That is, there has been a 20% increase in the GST collection on an annual basis.
GST collection of more than 1.5 lakh crores for the first time
This is the first time that the GST collection has crossed Rs 1.5 lakh crore. Earlier in March, the GST collection was Rs 1,42,095 crore, which was the highest GST collection in any previous month.

Top 5 states in terms of GST collection
State | April 2021 | April 2022 | Increased |
Maharashtra | 22,013 | 27,495 | 25% |
Karnataka | 9,955 | 11,820 | 19% |
Gujarat | 9,632 | 11,264 | 17% |
Tamil Nadu | 8,84 | 9,724 | 10% |
Uttar Pradesh | 7,355 | 8,534 | 16% |
Connection of inflation with GST
If we talk about the connection between inflation and GST collection, then the month in which Wholesale Inflation (WPI) has increased, the GST collection has also increased in that month. In March 2022, the GST collection created a new record. Then the WPI was also 14.55%. This happens because when the price of something increases, the tax on it also increases.
Suppose the cost of a sack of cement is Rs 300 per bag in March, then it will be taxed at Rs 84 according to 28% GST. Whereas in April its price reaches Rs 320. Till then 90 rupees will be taxed on it. It is clear from this that due to increase in inflation, the GST collection also increases. However, if there is a decrease in demand, there may also be a decrease in the GST collection.
You also pay GST
Any way you do any transaction, you will have to pay GST. Similarly, if you do business, then you add GST to the bill to the customer in front and with this the customer gives you money. Then out of that which is part of GST, you have to deposit it by 20th of the next month. There are different tax slabs of GST in the country.
4 slabs of GST
There are four slabs in GST of 5, 12, 18 and 28%. However, gold and gold jewelery attract a tax of 3%. There are also some unbranded and unpacked products which do not attract GST.
