Uttarkhand Dehradun’s Girl waved in the chess, will play in the Asian Championship

Sherali Patnaik of Doon, representing the state in the Under-13 Girls category, has brought pride to the state by securing the fourth position in the National School Chess Competition held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He has received a trophy and a cash award of five thousand rupees.

A total of 70 players from different states participated in this competition in the girls’ category. Sherali is the first girl chess player from Uttarakhand to achieve this feat. This has given Sherali an opportunity to represent India in the Asian Chess Championship at the national level. Sherali Patnaik is a Class VIII student at St. Joseph’s Academy, Dehradun. Looking at his skill and hard work towards chess, he is being seen as an emerging national player of the state in future. His father Sushant Patnaik is CCF in Forest Department and mother Dr. Shivani Patnaik is Professor in DBS College. The competition ran from 16 to 20 May.
