How did the friendship of BJP and TRS turn into enmity?

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Saturday gave a rousing welcome to Yashwant Sinha, the joint candidate of the opposition, in Hyderabad. But CM Rao did not reach Hyderabad to welcome PM Modi. It is important to know here that BJP and TRS were once good friends. TRS had also supported Ram Nath Kovind in the last presidential election. But now the paths of both the parties are different from each other. Let us tell you how there was a rift in the relationship between BJP and TRS.

BJP and TRS were good friends till 5 years ago

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao vehemently supported the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind nearly five years ago and his party Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in Parliament. He was often seen advocating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government on important issues.

KCR did not come to receive PM Modi

But now the face-off between him and the BJP has turned to such a degree that Rao on Saturday gave a grand welcome to the opposition’s presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha in the city. While CM KCR did not reach Hyderabad to receive Prime Minister Narendra Modi. BJP leaders, including PM Modi, are holding a meeting of their national executive, in which there are plans to discuss many issues, including ousting the Telangana Chief Minister from power.

TRS called the BJP meeting a circus

TRS has described this meeting as a ‘circus’ where political ‘tourists’ from the country will gather. Rao has waged a national war against the BJP by visiting various states and the national capital in an effort to forge an alliance with the opposition, while the BJP has doubled down on its efforts to end his power in the state. Rao has been in power in Telangana since 2014.

Compare KCR with Uddhav Thackeray

Some BJP leaders, who arrived in Hyderabad for a two-day national executive meeting, compared Rao to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and said the state’s chief minister would have the same fate as the leader of Maharashtra. The meeting is taking place soon after the Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government was voted out of power and the coalition led by the rebel faction of BJP and Shiv Sena was sworn in. Once the TRS used to have cordial relations with the BJP, but after the Modi-led government came to power again in 2019, the relationship between the two parties gradually started souring.

Serious allegations of BJP leaders

BJP leaders alleged that Rao was “desperate and furious” after sensing the party’s potential growth in the state. After surprising everyone by winning four Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, the BJP tried to fill the opposition space in the state. At the same time, it won two important seats in the assembly by-elections and also performed well in the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. BJP leaders said the party’s rise has left the TRS worried.

TRS on target of BJP

The BJP’s decision to choose Hyderabad for the meeting is seen as a clear indication that the party is looking to expand in states where it is relatively weak and Telangana is its top priority. This is the fourth time since coming to power at the Center in 2014 that the party is holding an important meeting of the national executive outside Delhi. He had earlier held meetings in Odisha in 2017, Kerala in 2016 and Bengaluru in 2015.

KCR targets PM Modi

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. While he supported the leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the meeting and greetings program of the opposition’s presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha. He also accused the Center of killing democracy in the country and using constitutional institutions to harass those who disagree. He said that the Modi administration is killing democracy every day, throttling the federal system of India… A union minister said that they will topple the Telangana government like Maharashtra…we are ready. If our government falls, we will be free to topple the BJP government at the Centre. Telangana society has fought for a separate state for 60 years and we are ready for another struggle.
