West Bengal : Mamta’s minister Partha Chatterjee got two-day ED remand, close Arpita Mukherjee also arrested

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday produced West Bengal Industries and Commerce Minister Partha Chatterjee before the Bankshall Court in Kolkata following his arrest in connection with the probe into the alleged teacher recruitment scam. The court has given two-day custody of Chatterjee to the ED. On the other hand, after Chatterjee, his close aide Arpita Mukherjee has also been arrested. Please tell that a pile of notes has been found at Arpita’s house. More than 21 crore cash was found in his house. Machines were procured from banks for counting notes.
Partha Chatterjee, a stalwart minister in the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal, who was the state’s education minister at the time of the alleged scam, was arrested by ED officials at his south Kolkata residence after nearly 26 hours of questioning. The court has given two days ED remand to Partha Chatterjee.

Earlier, Partha Chatterjee’s advocate Somnath Mukherjee said that his health was not well. He has hot issues. We demanded that proper medical facilities should be given to them if ED’s custody is given.
Arpita also arrested, a cache of notes found at home
After the arrest of Partha Chatterjee, the investigating agency had raided the house of his close aide Arpita Mukherjee last night. 21 crore cash recovered from Arpita’s house. The notes were in the denominations of 500 and 2000. Information has been received from ED sources that Arpita has also been arrested. He is accused of money laundering. They will be produced in court. Around 20 mobile phones and some documents were also recovered from Mukherjee’s premises.
A truck had to be brought to carry the notes
According to the information, ED officials have been raiding Arpita’s house since last evening. Machines were called from the bank to count the stock of notes found in the house. Cash worth Rs 21.20 crore has been recovered so far. Not only this, there are media reports that the ED officials had to call a truck to carry the notes. The notes were loaded into trucks and dispatched after filling them in boxes.

Significantly, the ED conducted this raid a month after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case in the recruitment scam on the directions of the Calcutta High Court.
