Life imprisonment to 7 including former MP Umakant Yadav in GRP constable murder case, Jaunpur court’s decision

The court of Jaunpur has sentenced 7 people, including former MP Umakant Yadav, to life imprisonment in the 27-year-old famous GRP constable murder case of Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. Umakant Yadav, a three-time MLA from Khuthan assembly and one-time MP from Fish town,  7 people including his driver Rajkumar Yadav were convicted on 6 August.

According to the information, seven people including former MP Umakant Yadav and his gunner were convicted in the murder case of GRP constable Ajay Singh at Shahganj railway station in Jaunpur on February 4, 1995. Umakant Yadav was present at the time of the incident.

Rajkumar Yadav, the driver of the former MP, had misbehaved with the GRP soldiers at the railway station, after which the soldiers kept the driver seated in the GRP post.  Rajkumar Yadav had gone to take his relative in the train.  After this, the former MP had reached the post with the team force to get his driver released.

After this there was an altercation with the soldiers, after which firing was done at Shahganj railway station, in which GRP constable Ajay Singh was killed and three people were injured.  .

Since February 19, 1996, 598 dates have passed and 19 witnesses have also passed.  A CBCID inquiry has also been conducted into this incident.  When this incident happened, Umakant Yadav was MLA from Bahujan Samaj Party.  This case was going on in the court of Additional District Judge (MP/ MLA Court) Sharad Tripathi.  The security arrangements in the court premises were strict regarding the verdict in the case against former MP and mafia Umakant Yadav.
