Uttarakhand / Dehradun : Administration alert due to weather warnings amid relief work in Sarkhet area

In the Sarkhet area, teams of 13 departments are engaged in relief and rescue operations under the supervision of the district administration. Along with this, work is also going on to restore the damaged connectivity routes, bridges, power-water lines. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert and forecast heavy rain. Taking this seriously, District Magistrate Sonika has asked all the officers to be on high alert.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, District Magistrate Sonika said that if the weather turns according to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, then it may face a challenge in the relief and rescue operations. Therefore, all the officers should make necessary arrangements in time.

If an emergency situation arises, then the disaster management system should be dispatched to the concerned areas immediately. At the same time, Additional District Magistrate Finance and Revenue KK Mishra inspected the relief camp set up at Maldevta Junior High School and tested the system. He directed that the 11 affected families living in the camp should not face any kind of problem. Apart from this, he also directed to keep the arrangements for cleanliness etc. in the entire area.

State Congress President Karan Mahra has written a letter to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, raising questions on the system to deal with the disaster in the state. He said that the government has failed to make arrangements for the security of the disaster prone areas in advance.

He demanded compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the relatives of the people who died in the disaster in different areas. Along with this, he has advocated for providing financial assistance of five lakh rupees to the affected families and their proper rehabilitation.

In the letter, Karan Mahra said that due to heavy rains on August 20, there was heavy loss of life and property in many districts of the state. There were incidents of heavy rain and cloudburst in Maldevta Sarkhet, Tehri and Yamkeshwar areas near the capital Dehradun.

Many people were injured in the disaster. Many people are still missing. The people buried under the rubble of the house in Sarkhet could not be rescued even after four days. The exact number of missing and seriously injured in the disaster could not be estimated.

Mahara said that many district headquarters have lost contact. Due to this, relief is not reaching the affected. The Disaster Management Department could not make arrangements for security in the disaster prone areas. The department should make arrangements for proper displacement of the residents of the disaster-prone areas.
