The issue of creating new districts in Uttarakhand heats up again, CM Dhami said a long time demand, Harda said, left Shigufa to divert money

The demand for creating new districts in Uttarakhand has been made for a long time, but both the governments, be it the Congress or the BJP, kept the matter of new districts in cold storage. However, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has once again asked to consider the demand for creating new districts. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the demand for new districts is being made for a long time. The government will soon consider whether reorganization can be done in the state. In fact, there is a need for a new district, it will be discussed with all the public representatives. Discussion in this direction will be taken forward. At the same time, after this statement of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, there has also been a reaction of senior Congress leader and former CM Harish Rawat.
Harish Rawat said that the recruitment scams have shaken the foundation of the BJP government, that is why now they are leaving the gimmicks like creation of new districts, common civil code and land laws only to divert attention. BJP’s aim is to divert attention from recruitment scam and other scams. Let us tell you that even in the Uttarakhand assembly elections 2022, the issue of creating new districts was raised very loudly. But as soon as the elections were over, the matter got buried again. Uttarakhand, which was formed by separating the hilly parts of UP about two decades ago, currently has 13 districts.
The exercise of new districts during the reign of ‘Nishank’
In the year 2011, the then Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had announced the creation of 4 districts. In this, there was talk of creating 2 districts (Kotdwar, Yamunotri) in Garhwal division and 2 districts (Ranikhet, Didihat) in Kumaon division. But the matter went into cold storage as soon as the then Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank stepped down.

Not only this, after this the government of Vijay Bahuguna handed over the matter to the Commission for the formation of new administrative units headed by the Revenue Council. After changing the Chief Minister in the year 2016, Harish Rawat came to power and he once again started the exercise of creating 8 new districts and played a new political bet. The blueprint for making new 8 districts (Didihat, Ranikhet, Ramnagar, Kashipur, Kotdwar, Yamunotri, Roorkee, Rishikesh) was also prepared, but all proved to be a political sham.

The Harish Rawat government of Congress had arranged the budget

In 2016, Harish Rawat, who was the Chief Minister in the then Congress government, had talked about arranging 100 crores for the formation of new districts. However, after this political upheaval started in the Congress and the demand for 4 districts was again put on hold.

Estimates of expenditure of 150 to 200 crores in the construction of a district

In the year 2016, the commission set up for the formation of new districts under the then Chief Minister Harish Rawat had estimated the expenditure of about 150 to 200 crore rupees in the construction of each new district. That is, during that time there was talk of creating 4 new districts. Therefore, if four new districts were created during that time, there would have been an additional burden of about 600 to 800 crores on the state.
