Jammu and Kashmir: When mother saw her cooking on the stove in the midst of smoke, Danish made a modern hearth, got the Inspire Award

A Class VIII student from a small village in Kashmir’s Kupwara district became restless when he saw his mother cooking food in the kitchen on a traditional wood stove amid smoke. He thought that how should I get rid of this poisonous fumes to mother. He collected some things and got busy. In about nine months he made a modern device (chulha). Cooking on this five-compartment (mouth) stove not only solved the problem of smoke, but also reduced the wastage of heat. The special thing about this device is that it can be run by both electricity and wood. He did this because there is a lot of electricity problem in the mountainous region of Kashmir. Now he is in the process of adding a solar system to his modern stove. Different types of things can be baked or cooked on this stove at different temperatures.
Not only this, this device can also be used to heat the room during winter days. By doing this, he not only found a solution to the problems of many mothers but also many mothers. On Saturday, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh also honored Danish Javed Bhat, a student of Machipora village of Handwara in Kupwara district with the Inspire Award for this innovation. This Danish model was highly appreciated in the recently held national level exhibition in New Delhi. The Danish modern hearth was also among the top 60 innovations selected in the exhibition. Excited about receiving the award, Danish said he was inspired by his mother’s troubles to make the device. She used to prepare food on the traditional chulha for a very long time during the winter days. He always used to think to remove the problem of their smoke and smoke in the chulha. After that he thought of making equipment.
This is how this tool works
Danish told that he has made five compartments in the stove as an alternative, in which the heat of different temperatures is released, so that food can be cooked on it accordingly. In the four compartments, arrangements have been made to direct the smoke coming out of the house through a thick pipe when the wood is used. An electric compartment has also been added to the side. In the absence of electricity in the hilly area, the girl can be used. Being very light in weight, it can be easily carried from kitchen to room as well. This makes it quite constitutional as well.
Now preparing to connect to the solar system
Danish said that he is thinking of adding a solar system to the same device. If all goes well, soon a compartment of solar system will also be installed in this device. After this the use of wood will be the last option. Danish said that minimizing pollution is also his aim.
With the help of professional team, the model of this equipment will be further improved.
Dr. Akhilesh Gupta, Senior Adviser, Department of Science and Technology met all the students who participated in the exhibition. The students informed them about their innovation in detail. While inspecting Danish’s equipment, he said that it could be further improved. At the same time, an official of the State Council of Educational Research and Training also said that the device will be further improved. For this help from professional team will also be taken.
13 students from Jammu and Kashmir were selected for the exhibition
A total of 6.53 lakh innovations were submitted from all the States and Union Territories for the National Exhibition and Competition. Out of them 576 were selected for exhibition in the year 2020-21. A total of 13 students from Jammu and Kashmir were selected for this exhibition. Earlier in January, State Council of Educational Research and Training along with National Innovation Foundation India had organized a state level exhibition for children in the age group of 10 to 15 years. Later a national level competition was held.
Inspire scheme to promote innovation
The Union Department of Science and Technology has launched the INSPIRE scheme to promote innovation among children. Children in the age group of 10 to 15 years can participate. This time the competition was organized for the students of Kashmir division on January 17 and for the students of Jammu division on January 19. A total of 116 students shared their ideas.
Even today, in remote villages of Jammu and Kashmir, women cook food on the traditional chulha. My device can change the lives of rural women who struggle with smoke everyday. Danish Javed Bhat
Danish’s effort is commendable and inspiring. It is good to see that our children are grooming themselves to meet the challenges of modern times. Students should keep trying like this. The government will fully cooperate in such efforts. Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, School Education Department
