‘First wear hijab then take interview’, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi returns American journalist

Iran’s President Ibrahim Raisi refused to interview a US female journalist for not wearing a hijab. This matter has come to the fore at a time when the issue of hijab is hot in this Middle East country. In fact, after the death of a woman in police custody for breaking the hijab rules, people have been furious and have come out on the streets.
Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi was to be interviewed with CNN’s Chief International Anchor Christian Emanpour. But, it was canceled after the journalist refused to wear the hijab. Christian tweeted that he was asked to wear a headscarf, but he refused to do so. After this the interview was canceled suddenly.
Waiting for the Iranian President for 40 minutes
Christian waited 40 minutes for the Iranian president to be interviewed, but he did not come. The female journalist was told that it was the holy month of Muharram, so a headscarf would have to be worn. To this he said that we are in New York and there is no such law regarding headscarf here. No Iranian president has made such a demand before when she is conducting interviews outside Iran.
Why is there a ruckus about the hijab in Iran?
At the same time, America has banned the religious police and officials of other government agencies in Iran after the death of the girl while in custody. These restrictions have been imposed after the violence erupted in Iran after the death of the young woman and then 9 people were killed in clashes with security forces. It was Dharmachar police who last week detained 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, saying she had not covered her hair properly with a hijab. Amini had collapsed in a police station and died three days later.
