BJP in preparation for a long battle in West Bengal

  • Plans to field Smriti against Mamta
  • Women vs women war plans with female vote

The BJP is now planning a long fight in the state after the failure, despite tireless efforts in the assembly elections. Under this scheme, Union Minister Smriti Irani is going to be appointed in-charge of the state in place of Kailash Vijayvargiya in the party. Through this, the party plans to field a strong female leader in front of CM Mamta Banerjee in addition to targeting 23 million women voters in the state.

In fact, one of the major reasons for the BJP not getting the expected success in the Legislative Assembly was the confidence of a large section of the female voter against Mamata Banerjee. The increase in the votes of the Trinamool Congress was almost five per cent higher than the previous election, due to the support of the women class and the minority vote in favor of TMC. Due to not having a big female face, the BJP could not establish its penetration in the women’s category as expected.

Now the party wants to remove this deficiency. The party also wants to give Irani a long time for this. Party strategists assess that Smriti will be able to create an atmosphere against Mamata, especially in the female category, due to better grip on Bangla language and higher political stature. Party strategists claim that Smriti’s rallies had a good impact during the elections in the state. However, he failed to get a sense of the party before. Due to this, they could not get their rallies done.

Will be in charge till next assembly election

Party sources say that Smriti will get a long time as Vijayvargiya as in-charge. Vijayvargiya made a record in the party by being in charge of the same state for six consecutive years. Now Smriti will be retained as incharge till the next assembly election. Smriti will visit the state every month only after being made in charge. During this time, women will formulate a strategy to do it in their favor. Significantly, after losing to Rahul in Amethi in 2014, Smriti won by campaigning there for five consecutive years. He will have a similar role in Bengal as well.
