Center announces additional benefits under EPFO and ESIC scheme
The Ministry of Labor and Employment announced additional benefits under the schemes of the Employees ‘Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) and the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) to provide relief to employees surrounded by concerns about the safety of their family members in this period of Corona epidemic.
The ministry issued a statement here saying that there was a demand to provide better social security to the employees without putting extra burden on the employers. At present, in the event of death or physical disability of a person holding ESIC insurance, his spouse and widowed mother is given a pension equal to 90 percent of the average daily salary of that employee for life and children up to the age of 25 years. In case of employee’s daughter, she is given this benefit till her marriage.
The ministry said that to help the families of the insured under the ESIC scheme, it has been decided that all the dependent members of his family who were registered in the online portal of ESIC before getting infected with Covid and the cause of the disease later In his death, he will also be entitled to avail the benefit of the dependents of the insured who died while on duty at the same level.
For this, two conditions have to be fulfilled. The first is that the insured must be registered on the ESIC online portal at least three months before the infection of Covid-19 is detected and its death. Second, that the insured must be employed for the salary and must have at least 78 days of rest during the year immediately preceding the detection of Covid disease in the context of the deceased insured who has died. The scheme will be effective from March 24, 2020, for a period of two years.
