Uttarakhand Weather: Late night rain in many districts after alert, Badrinath Highway closed for second day

The strong moist winds coming from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal have changed the mood of the state from the plain to the mountain. On Monday, it started raining from the ground to the mountain, which continued till Tuesday morning. Light rain is still continuing at many places.

At the same time, the weather has become pleasant due to light rain everywhere from Garhwal to Kumaon. According to meteorologists, in the next 24 hours, there is a possibility of celestial lightning with heavy rains in districts like Dehradun, Bageshwar, Nainital and Pithoragarh.

At the same time, light to moderate rains are likely to occur in most of the hilly areas of the state. According to Dr. Rohit Thapliyal, Senior Meteorologist, Meteorological Center, continuous moist winds are coming from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, due to which the weather pattern has changed in the mountainous states. In addition to strong showers in most of the hill areas of the state, strong winds are expected at 30 to 40 km per hour in the plains.

Badrinath Highway closed for the second day

The Rishikesh-Badrinath highway was closed on Monday due to landslides. 40 meters of the highway has collapsed. According to NH officials, efforts are on to open the highway by noon. On the other hand, due to the closure of the highway, the supply of essential commodities has also come to a standstill in Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts.

Nearly eight km from the district headquarters was closed due to a massive landslide in the 200-metre area adjacent to the hill after torrential rains on Sunday night. Two-way traffic on the highway was closed due to the problem. The highway in this area has already become sensitive due to the All Weather Road project being under construction. In about 100 meters, heavy debris and boulders are lying on the highway from the hill.

40 meters of the Pushta has been destroyed by heavy debris. Debris cleanup was started by the working organization working in NH and Allweather Road project from 6 am on Monday morning, but traffic has not been restored on the highway till Tuesday morning. On the other hand, due to the blockage of the highway, people in Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts did not have the supply of newspapers, milk, bread, vegetables, they faced a lot of problems.

There was a landslide on the highway near Samrat Hotel, two km ahead of Khankra. Due to which even 40 meters of the road has been completely demolished. After cleaning the debris, the movement of vehicles will be made by making a new cutting on the upper side in the demolished area. Efforts are being made to smooth the traffic by Tuesday afternoon.
