Women’s Golf: Megha Ganna, joint topper in US Open
New Jersey-based Indian-American teenager Megha Ganna has created a sensation in the sports world by finishing joint top in the second round of the US Women’s Open at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.
Sugarcane of 17 years achieved a special achievement. She is the first amateur player in 15 years, since Jane Park (2006), to take the lead after the first round of the US Women’s Open.
Megha played a 4 under 67, one short of the 18 hole amateur scoring record. Sugarcane is only the sixth amateur in the tournament’s 76-year history to have scored 67 or better.
A four-minute video related to Round-1 is currently doing the rounds on the internet. Cane said on the venue, the more you play such events, the better you will get.
Sugarcane, a high school student, is enjoying this wonderful moment to the fullest. Cane said she enjoys being in the spotlight and every event had a gallery from where people could watch her, so I could have played better.
