Himachal Pradesh : Governor stresses on inclusion of NCC as an optional course

Governor Bandaru Dattatreya while emphasizing on including NCC as an optional course in universities and colleges said that we can move forward in the direction of nation building through NCC.

The Governor was addressing the Vice Chancellors of the State Universities through video conferencing from Raj Bhavan today.

Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University Shimla Prof. Sikandar Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Chaudhary Sarvaran Kumar Agricultural University, Palampur, Prof. HK Chaudhary, Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni Solan, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Parvinder Kaushal, Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh Technical University Hamirpur Prof. SP Bansal, Vice Chancellor of Cluster University Mandi, Dr. CL Chandan, Secretary Education Rajiv Sharma, Director Higher Education Dr. Amarjeet Sharma and N.C.C. Brig Rajiv Thakur, Group Commander, Group Headquarters Shimla also participated in the video conferencing.

Rakesh Kanwar, Secretary to the Governor, conducted the meeting. Inclusion of NCC as an elective course in universities and colleges, status of online learning, preparation for examination, admission and post unlock review and participation of students and teachers in COVID care activities were reviewed.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that most of the colleges are conducting NCC activities on a large scale and some of them have also done excellent work, but it can be considered for inclusion as an elective course. He said that NCC cadets can play an important role in the supply chain during the Corona pandemic. He said that educational institutions are working on online education since last year but a lot is still to be done in this direction. He said that for how much we have adopted new technology, we need to make our own assessment. He said that those who are working through this system should also understand whether this facility is being available to the students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He directed the Vice Chancellors to submit the report of the efforts made to remove the shortcomings in online education.

Shri Dattatreya said that special online coaching and classes should be conducted for the students of tribal areas so that they can benefit from this education system. He also directed the Vice Chancellors and Professors to focus on awareness programs related to Corona pandemic and send awareness messages to the students. He advised the Vice Chancellors to ensure all arrangements for conducting the examinations for which maximum use of existing available technologies should be made.

Earlier, N.C.C. Group Commander Brigadier Rajeev Thakur made a power point presentation regarding the proposal of NCC as an elective course in universities and colleges.
