Rupee breaks nine paise
The rupee weakened by nine paise on Tuesday in the interbanking currency market on the strength of the dollar against other major currencies of the world and sold one dollar at 72.89 rupees at the close of trading. Last trading day, the Indian currency had gained 19 paise to close at Rs 72.80 per dollar.
The rupee was bullish in the beginning today. The rupee strengthened due to the softening of crude oil in the international market. It opened higher by two paise at Rs 72.78 per dollar and rose to Rs 72.77 per dollar.
In the basket of other major currencies of the world, the rupee later went into decline sharply in the dollar index. After breaking up to Rs 72.90 per dollar before the close of trading, it finally closed at Rs 72.89 per dollar.
