India can save logistic fuel of 311 lakh crores by 2050
By taking advantage of opportunities such as efficient rail-based transport, optimum utilization of logistics and supply chain, and transition to electric and other clean fuel vehicles, India can save Rs 311 lakh crore over the next three decades. This is stated in the new report of NITI Aayog, RMI and RMI India, Fast Tracking Freight in India: A Roadmap for Clean and Cost Effective Freight Transport.
Freight transport is expected to increase in the future due to the increasing demand for goods and services. Although freight transport is essential for economic development, it suffers from high logistic costs.
According to the report, India has the potential to reduce its logistics cost by up to 4 percent of GDP. Potential to save 10 gigatons of cumulative carbon between 2020-2050. Potential to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter by 35 percent and 28 percent, respectively, by 2050.
