Asset Management of Mutual Fund SIP at Rs 4.67 Lakh Crore

The interest in the Indian Mutual Fund industry as a long-term wealth creation of individual investors is increasing year after year which is evident from the increase in SIP Folio, SIP Contribution and SIP AUM over the last five years. As per AMFI data, mutual fund SIP AUM has grown four times to Rs 4,67,366.13 crore as on May 31, 2021, from Rs 1,25,394 crore as on August 31, 2016.

The annual mutual fund SIP contribution has also more than doubled to Rs 96,080 crore during the last five years from the pandemic crisis during April 2020 to March 31, 2021 to Rs 43,921 crore between April 2016 and March 2017. Affected by Rs. In the last five years, SIP AUM has registered a growth of 30 per cent per annum, which is more than double the AUM of the mutual fund industry.

Mutual fund monthly SIP contribution increased by 2.52 times to Rs 8,818.9 crore as on May 31, 2021 from Rs 3,497 crore as on August 31, 2016. The SIP contributed Rs 42,148 crore in the first five months of FY 2021 alone.

There has been a rapid increase in retail investor sentiment towards the mutual fund asset class which is evident from the increase in the number of mutual fund SIP accounts during the last five years. The number of these accounts was one crore as on 30 April 2016 which increased almost four times to 3.88 crore by 31 May 2021.
The number of new SIPs registered on a month-on-month basis almost tripled to 15.48 lakh as on May 31, 2021, from 5.88 lakh as on April 30, 2016.
