300 million vaccines administered in America, Biden declares Summer of Joy
Ahead of America’s Independence Day weekend, President Joe Biden said America is headed for a very different summer than it was last year. In the 150 days since Biden took office, 300 million COVID-19 vaccines have been administered.
Biden said: “We’re headed for a very different summer than we were last year.” A bright summer, prayerfully, a heat of joy.
The White House announced plans to host more than 1,000 guests, mainly frontline workers and their families, on the South Lawn on July 4.
Biden’s goal was to have 70 percent of Americans vaccinated against COVID-19 by July 4. The pace of vaccination is now falling sharply from the high in April and the current number is 65 percent. Among adults alone, 55 percent are fully vaccinated. Of the 50 U.S. states, 26 states and Washington DC have fully vaccinated 50 percent or more of adults, according to White House data.
Based on data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 42.6 percent of the US population is now fully vaccinated. COVID cases, hospitalizations and deaths in the US are at their lowest level since the start of the pandemic last year.
In contrast to robust vaccinations, the CDC is warning that the first known delta of the coronavirus is spreading rapidly in India and will become the dominant strain in the US.
The CDC is telling Americans that those who get their shots will survive this Delta version.
If you’re fully vaccinated, you’re actually pretty well protected, Ashish Jha, dean of the Brown University School of Public Health, told NBC. But if you’ve been partially vaccinated, we’re seeing a lot of infections. Hence, this is probably the worst variant that we have come across.
