If you are doing online shopping, then the government is preparing to change some rules in it. Small traders have been complaining about the penetration of online retailers and huge discounts in the market. After this complaint, the government is preparing to adopt a strict attitude on e-commerce market places like Amazon and Flipkart in India. According to the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules 2020 proposed by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the government is set to limit flash sales. However, there will be no ban on e-commerce discount sales that are conducted traditionally.

Selling only specifically to capture customers or frequent flash sales drives up prices. from providing an equal opportunity platform to all, such sale shall not be permitted.

As per the changes in the e-commerce rules proposed by the ministry, e-commerce firms will have to put in place an adequate grievance mechanism and appoint a chief compliance officer. In addition, these companies will also have to appoint a Resident Grievance Officer. This officer should be a resident of India. Along with this, nodal officer will also have to be kept.

The government includes rules such as giving priority to the sale of local products, mandatory registration of e-retailers with the Department of Industry and Internal Trade. The purpose of this move of the central government is to make companies accountable to customers and make the regulatory system strict.

Under the proposed amendments, e-commerce companies will have to provide information within 72 hours of getting an order from a government agency for prevention, investigation and investigation of offenses under any law. The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 were first notified in July last year.

The ministry has said that industry bodies and e-commerce firms can send their suggestions and comments on the proposed rules by July 6.
