Mega plantation drive will be organized in July: Governor Himachal Pradesh
Under the aegis of Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Society, a huge plantation drive will be organized in the state in the third week of July this year, under which about one lakh saplings will be planted. Governor Bandaru Dattatreya said this while presiding over a meeting here today.
The Governor said that in view of the Corona epidemic, there has been a greater sense of environmental protection among the people, which needs to be realized. Such campaigns should be organized regularly and every effort should be made to take care of the plants. He said that students, Mahila Mandals and NGOs should be involved in these campaigns. He directed the Forest Department to organize such events in future also in coordination with Red Cross and other departments. He laid special emphasis on plantation of fruits and medicinal plants.
State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Branch President Dr. Sadhna Thakur said that due to Corona epidemic, Red Cross has not been able to organize campaigns like tree plantation and Red Cross fairs for some time, but these activities will be elaborated as soon as this epidemic ends. He said that the Red Cross has done a good job at the district level during this pandemic. He has appealed that more and more people should be associated with this work and they should be made aware of such activities. He especially suggested to involve people from the grassroot level with the plantation drive.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Dr. Savita gave detailed information about plantation activities.
On this occasion, discussions were held with the Deputy Commissioners and Sub-Divisional Officers of all the districts of the state through video conferencing.
