45 people died due to extreme heat in America
45 people have died due to extreme hot weather in Multnomah County in the US state of Oregon. The Multnomah County Medical Examiner Program report reported 45 deaths due to extreme heat since June 25 (Friday).
The initial cause of death is hyperthermia, a condition in which the body temperature becomes abnormally high, the release said. This condition arises due to the inability of the body to tolerate the excessive heat in the environment. According to the report, a record number of emergency calls have been made so far regarding the extreme heat situation.
Those who died of extreme heat are between 44 and 97 years old.
In view of the situation, three cooling centers have been set up between Monday, the release said. Apart from this, nine libraries are also being used as cooling centres. Around 8,000 people have come to these cooling centers during this period.
