Ankur and Anjum’s name recommended for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna

The National Rifles Association of India (NRAI) has recommended the names of shooters Ankur Mittal and Anjum Mudgil for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, India’s highest sporting honour. The NRAI has also recommended world number one 10m air rifle shooter Elavenil Valarivan, world number one 10m air pistol shooter Abhishek Verma and 50m pistol world champion Om Prakash Mitharwal for the Arjuna award, although NRAI has recommended this. There is no recommendation in the year Dronacharya award category.

Ankur won a gold medal in the double trap event at the 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Changwon, South Korea, for which he also received the Arjuna Award from the President of India in the same year. Olympic ticketed rifle shooter Mudgil is a World Championships silver medalist since the 2018 edition. He was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2019.

NRAI said, last year also both the shooters were recommended for this award.
It is noteworthy that the National Sports Awards are given every year on 29 August to mark the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand as National Sports Day.
