BJP’s strategy flourished in West UP in Panchayat President election

⏺️Successful in making Jat fraternity president in seven districts
⏺️The challenge was to break the perception of political loss due to the farmers’ movement
⏺️Like the last three elections again showed the power of strong social engineering

In the election of District Panchayat President, the strategy made by the BJP for western Uttar Pradesh got fruitful. The challenge was to break the perception that the BJP had suffered in the assembly elections in the region due to the peasant movement and the outspoken role of the Jat fraternity in it. The party not only captured all the districts except one district in this region, but also succeeded in making people of Jat fraternity as district panchayat presidents in seven districts.

According to a senior leader associated with the election strategy, a strategy was made to convey a variety of messages through the election of the president. Under this, the message was to be given in western Uttar Pradesh that the Jat fraternity has not turned away from the BJP. Under this strategy, the party not only made this fraternity its candidate for the post of president in seven districts, but also won. As a strategy, candidates were fielded from the same fraternity in the districts of Noida, Muzaffarnagar, Mathura, Bulandshahr, Meerut, Saharanpur, Bijnor with wide influence of the Jat community.
A simple balance for the Gujjar community

Gujjar fraternity has great influence in many seats in western Uttar Pradesh. In view of this, three seats Hapur, Amroha, Shamli were given to this community. While the remaining seats bet on Dalits and Extremely Backward Castes. By winning all the seats except one in this region, the BJP has tried to send a message that despite the RLD-SP alliance, its influence has not diminished here.

A sign of strong social engineering

The party has won two Lok Sabha elections and one assembly election in the state. During this, the BJP had prepared a social engineering of the Forward, Gairyadav Backward and Non-Jatav Depressed Classes. Keeping this formula intact in the election of the President, the party has given a positive message to the Jatav fraternity along with Yadav. For example, in this election, four people from the Yadav community and two from the Jatav community have become the district panchayat presidents. However, as before, the party focused more on non-Yadav OBCs and non-Jatav Dalits.

How many won from which fraternity?

The BJP, along with the ally, won 67 of the 75 seats. Out of these 27 seats of OBC, 25 of forward class and 15 out of 16 seats of Depressed class came in BJP’s share. Sikh Jats from the OBCs made up eight of the Jat community, six from the Kurmi community, four from the Yadav community, three from the Gurjar and two from the Lodh community, while one each from the Shakya, Maurya, Chaurasia and Lohar community became presidents. He succeeded in making three people from the Dalit community, three each from Pasi-Dhobi, two each from Jatav-Kori, one each from Khatik-Dohre and three from other castes of the Depressed Classes.
