3 out of 12 whales trapped in China’s Zhejiang died

A total of 12 whales were found trapped in the waters of China’s Zhejiang province, three of which have died, police said.

Police said at 8 a.m. a report was received that a whale had been found on a beach in Linhai City.

The local public safety department and fisheries department, as well as local people in the fishing industry, rushed to the scene to assist in the rescue.

The heat, the weight of the whales and their location off the coast, are still complicated by complex rescue efforts.

Rescuers have dug pits for the whales and are pouring water on them.

Zhu Yupeng of the law enforcement team of the city’s Marine and Fisheries Bureau said they are also using wet towels to keep the mammals moist, and sheds have been built to protect them from the sun.
