Delimitation Commission will visit Jammu and Kashmir for 4 days from today

The Delimitation Commission headed by Justice (Retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai is starting a 4-day long visit to J&K to meet the representatives of political parties, government offices etc. to complete the delimitation process of Assembly seats/Lok Sabha seats so that Elections can be held in Union Territories.

Justice (Retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra Sharma and State Election Commissioner (SEC) K.K. All three members of the commission including Sharma will reach Srinagar today.

The commission will meet political leaders in Jammu on July 8. It will hold detailed talks with the Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir Divisions at Pahalgam and Srinagar on 7th July and the Deputy Commissioners of Jammu Divisions at Kishtwar and Jammu on 8th and 9th July.

Since the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) was not able to take a joint side at the commission meeting, it was decided that since the invitation from the commission was to different parties, each constituent of the PAGD would take its own decision.
The National Conference (NC) has decided to meet the commission. Its leaders Abdul Rahim Rather and Devendra Rana will lead the party’s delegation, which will meet the commission in Srinagar and Jammu respectively.

The NC delegation in Srinagar will be led by senior party leader Abdul Rahim Rather and will include Mian Altaf, Mohammad Shafi Uri, Sakina Itoo and Nasir Aslam Wani.
The NC delegation in Jammu will be headed by provincial president Devendra Rana and will include Surjit Singh Salathia, Ajay Sadhotra, Sajjad Kichlu and Javed Rana.

The Mehbooba Mufti-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is yet to announce its decision on whether it will meet the commission. In the Congress delegation to the meeting of the commission, G.A. Mir, Peerzada Sayeed, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Bashir Ahmed Magre, Surinder Channi and Vinod Kaul. The BJP delegation included Sophie Yusuf, G.M. Mir, Surinder Ambardar and Altaf Thakur.

Other political parties, including the Nationalist Panther Party (NPP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), People’s Conference (PC) and Jammu Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP), have already announced that they will attend the commission’s meeting.
