Djokovic in semi-finals with 100th grass court win, Federer out

World number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated Marten Fuksovi of Hungary in consecutive sets to enter the semi-finals of the third Grand Slam Wimbledon Tennis Championships of the year while the king of 20 Grand Slam titles, Roger Federer of Switzerland, 14th seed Hubert Hurkaz of Poland. He was defeated in successive sets.
Hurkaz defeated sixth seed Federer 6-3, 7-6, 6-0 in one hour and 49 minutes to reach the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his career. Hurkaz’s best performance in the Grand Slam before this was reaching the third round in the same tournament in 2019.

Earlier, Djokovic registered his 100th grass court win. Five-time winner and defending two-time champion Djokovic defeated Fuksovi 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in a match that lasted two hours and 17 minutes to reach the last four of a Grand Slam tournament for the 41st time. The match will be up against 10th seed Canada’s Denis Shapovalov, who defeated 25th seed Karen Khachanov of Russia 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 in three hours 26 minutes in a five-set marathon match. Made it to the semi-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time. Shapovalov had previously reached the quarterfinals of the US Open last year.

Fuksovi lost the match in successive sets against Djokovic but during this time he played some good shots and forced the audience to applaud. Fuchsovic’s girlfriend, who was playing in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the first time, was also present in the audience to watch the match but she did not have the kind of game that could stop Djokovic. Djokovic greeted the audience in his unique style after winning the match.
This was Djokovic’s 32nd win in 35 matches this season. These victories include the Australian Open and French Open titles. Djokovic has reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon for the 10th time and has come third behind Roger Federer of Switzerland (13 times) and Jimmy Connors of America (11 times).
